Lachlan Dreher

Director

Lachlan is a chemical engineer with over 25 years’ experience in the fields of risk management and process safety. Prior to starting R4Risk, he had worked for 18 years as a risk consultant with VRJ Risk Engineers, ModuSpec and Lloyd’s Register.

During this time, Lachlan worked in various roles, including technical leader for risk services worldwide and General Manager, managing a large team of risk consultants across Australia. He has an in-depth knowledge of risk issues and has worked closely with many clients to assist them to manage their major hazard risks and development of Safety Cases. Lachlan has extensive experience in the application of various risk assessment methodologies in the petroleum refining, chemicals manufacturing and oil and gas industries, both for the assessment of existing facilities and for new installations. He has also conducted numerous safety assessments and fire safety studies for major hazard sites, including onshore gas plants, refineries, tank farms and terminals.

Lachlan has presented many technical papers on risk at various conferences within Australia and overseas, including several relating to MHFs and Safety Cases. He has also provided technical input to legal proceedings as an expert witness.

  • Bachelor of Engineer (Chem). Hons. University of Melbourne

  • Member, Institution of Engineers Australia (MIEAust)

  • Registered Professional Engineer (NPER-3); in the categories of Chemical (general) and Fire Safety Engineering

  • Member, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)

  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland.
