Women in Engineering Speed Mentoring Workshop

R4Risk’s Michela Leedow participated as a mentor in the Women In Engineering – Victoria Speed Mentoring Workshop, sharing her knowledge and experience.

This event brought together industry leaders to provide guidance, offer advice and inspire the next generation of engineers.

The event included an opening address from Parul Tangri of AusNet, who shared the following insights:

  •  Engineering is more than solving problems on paper — it’s about making a real difference in people’s lives.
  • Mentorship is about expanding possibilities as much as it is about passing on skills and experiences. Mentors are game-changers — they see your potential before you do, challenge your thinking, and open doors you didn’t know existed.
  • Finding a mentor is not luck — it’s a strategic process. Look both inside and outside your organisation, mix formal and informal chats, choose values-aligned individuals, and reach out boldly.
  • Reverse mentoring is powerful — mentors can learn just as much from their mentees, from fresh problem-solving ideas to culture-building insights.
  • Don’t wait for the “perfect moment” — mentorship, in both directions, can take you places you’ve never imagined.

Michela’s contribution reflects R4Risk’s commitment to supporting diversity, mentorship, and the growth of future female talent in engineering.
