Semi-Quantitative Risk Assessment of Toxic Dust Hazards in Manufacturing

Congratulations to our Senior Risk Engineer, Belinda Beale, who delivered an insightful presentation at the Loss Prevention Asia 2023 Conference in Kuala Lumpur. Her session, entitled ‘Semi-Quantitative Risk Assessment of Toxic Dust Hazards in Manufacturing’, served as a valuable contribution in the context of the conference theme, ‘Enhancing Human Performance Towards Loss Prevention.’ It provided a comprehensive overview of the hazards associated with dust exposure in industrial settings. It covers the definitions of dust and toxicity, the reasons why dusts are hazardous and the potential risks of small and large dust releases. Her presentation also outlined a semi-quantitative risk assessment method to evaluate the fatality potential of large dust releases, including impact criteria, exposure thresholds and site assessments.

Belinda’s practical insights and description of the approach provided invaluable guidance to the audience, emphasising the importance of proactive risk management in hazardous industries.
