Kate Filippin

Kate is a chemical engineer with over 25 years’ experience in process safety, risk assessment and safety management across high‑hazard industries including petroleum, chemicals, mining, manufacturing and warehousing. 

She has extensive experience in the practical development and implementation of Safety Cases for Major Hazard Facilities and routinely leads complex fire safety studies, quantitative risk assessments (QRA), consequence modelling and occupied building studies for facilities handling flammable, combustible and toxic materials. Her comprehensive fire safety assessments for high-hazard facilities include integration of fire risk mitigation measures into Safety Cases and development of emergency response and fire protection strategies aligned with regulatory expectations.

Kate has extensive experience in hazard identification and risk evaluation across a range of study types, including participation in HAZOP and layers of protection analysis (LOPA) studies.  She provides technical assurance for risk‑based decision making on major industrial projects and has acted as an expert in safety and risk matters for major infrastructure and planning approvals.

Kate has presented technical papers on risk and process safety issues at international conferences in the USA, with a publication in Process Safety Progress.
